Mystery Tea

This afternoon we all got together here in Singapore to plan and pray for our last conference– a Radiant Purity Conference. It starts in about 12 hours. I am excited and anticipating the Lord to do great things. Please pray that the Lord’s hand would be at work and that everyone would have perseverance to continue! Some on our team are sick and need prayer.

Since I’ve been battling a cough, the other night my mom gave me this strange dark brown tea. I sipped it and was going to finish it later, but Sarah said I was supposed to drink it while it was warm. I wasn’t too thrilled, but I just gulped it all down.

It wasn’t until the next day that they told me what the tea was made out of…

Following the instructions of one of the Asian mothers here, my mom boiled big black beetles (above) together with leaves for a half hour. Then she drained the beetles and gave it to me warm to drink. It’s “traditional Chinese medicine”.

Well, I’m happy to report that I’m all better now and feeling great. As Stephen reminded me, “It must have been the bugs.” 🙂

  1. I’ll be praying for the conference. I’m glad your feeling better-that thing about the bugs is grose. :0)

  2. I am glad that you are feeling better Grace. I will continue to pray for the confrence.
The bugs sound disgusting, but as my Dad would say they sound wonderful(My Dad doesn’t really eat bugs, but he likes hearing about that yucky stuff). 🙂

    In His Love,
    Haley

  3. Grace – I’m praying for you and the BL leaders! It is so neat how you do conferences in Singapore!
I don’t know how you could stand drinking that buggy tea! 🙂

  4. I’ll be praying for you and the Bright Lights team Grace. By the way…Didn’t the tea taste bad with those bugs in it?

  5. I will be praying for healing for those sick. May the God of strength and healing wash over each one in need of getting better.

Please tell Dani thank you for leaving a note on my brother’s blog. I look forward to hearing all about your adventures (drinking bug water and eating all sorts of interesting creatures!) and about all the Lord is doing in the lives of the girls you are ministering to. May God be glorified in all that is done.

  6. It’s wonderful to hear what the Lord is doing through Bright Lights – even across the globe!

Okay, so that sounds like a really nasty drink! Ugh!

  7. Oh, gross!!!!! You sometimes just never know what’s in foreign food……

Every year in our homeschool group, kids pick out a country to do some research on and then make a traditional dish from that country. We then get together and have a potluck meal and a time where the kids can do their presentations. One year a family did Japan (I think!) and brought seaweed soup. The mom didn’t tell everyone what was in it until afterwards. Of course. I didn’t eat any! 😀

Hope the conference goes well and have a safe trip back!

  8. It brings back so many memories to see your pictures and read about what you’re doing. I can hardly wait to see you when you all get back!
It seems like you are the one that always gets to try the traditional medicine Grace– prolly a good thing considering you’re most likely the most adventurous one! :o)
    Safe travels!
