Witnessing Stories

Courageous and Wisdom Teeth

Tuesday afternoon our family went to see Courageous. It was fantastic.

As I was buying my ticket, I gave the girl at the booth an “animal card” – one of my new favorite tracts. They have amazing facts about animals with reference to the Creator and a Bible verse on the back. People really like them and they are so easy to give out.

Since no one else was in line at the moment and the movie hadn’t started yet, I decided to go back and talk with her. Our conversation went something like this.

“Hey, since no one is behind me here in line can I has you an interesting question?” I asked.
“Sure,” she said.
“What’s your view on what happens when someone dies…like, do you have any spiritual beliefs about that?”
She wanted to talk about it right away and said, “Well my cousin died 7 years ago so it really made me think about it…” she explained. “He was only 25 and I couldn’t understand why…”
“Ah, like you had a hard time wondering why God allowed it to happen?”
“Yeah,” she said.
“So it was a tragic death?” I asked.
“Well, he had his wisdom teeth pulled and then developed an infection and that led to something else and he died…”
*internal gulp*
“I’m getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday,” I told her.

Maybe that wasn’t the best thing for me to hear at that moment. My little witnessing attempt became sort of…well…haha, I don’t know…it wasn’t exactly going as I expected! I tried to get to the gospel, mentioning how it’s not God’s fault there is evil in the world — it’s ours. And if God got rid of all of the evil in the world that would include us because each one of us has evil (sin) inside us. That’s why we need Jesus.

She agreed but I’m not sure if she understood. She needs to hear more.

Anyway, here I am three days later sitting with ice packs wrapped to my face, grateful that I like smoothies and yogurt!

And I’m also grateful for my friend Karen from church who just brought over 5 little miniture ice cream containers!

I’m thinking I should go back to see Harmony, the girl from the Theater to follow up. And to tell her I’m still alive. 🙂 If you think of it, pray for Harmony.

  1. Hope you feel better soon, Grace! Thanks for sharing about your witnessing encounter. I’m always encouraged by reading about how you “open your mouth boldly” (Ephesians 6) to share the gospel!

  2. Hello Grace!
Hope you feel better soon! Thankfully I won’t be needing my wisdom teeth out.
I’ve left “animal cards” withpeople, too! 🙂
    Eat lots of ice cream!

  3. I have never had wisdom teeth out, but I did have a baby tooth pulled a long time ago and am not interested in losing any of my other teeth! I hope you feel better soon! I will be praying for Harmony. By the way, do you have any halloween tracts I could print out?

  4. Praying for you & Harmony, Grace! It’s so encouraging to hear witnessing stories! Daniel, I like to use the halloween tracts from chick.com. They’re about $0.15 a piece. They’re comic book style & everyone seems to like them! We always enjoy reading them. And you can read them on their website, too, which is nice to do before purchasing them. Anyhow, hope you can find something! Thanks again, Grace, for sharing & we’re praying!

  5. Hey Daniel, thanks for asking…My dad has written some in the past, but we don’t have any available right now online to print out. That would be a good idea, though. Last year on Halloween we went to a college campus and were able to get into some good conversations by asking students questions about what they believed about ghosts, etc. It can be a good door opener.

  6. i hope you feel better soon! i had mine out already and it wasnt very fun! im praying for harmony! and im glad yall went to see courageous it was SO good! 🙂

  7. Grace, thanks for replying! I hope your teeth feel beter today! I did have some Halloween Gospel tracts from http://www.customtractsource.com, but I don’t think I will have time to order more right now. I think I will make it an afternoon goal to write my own Halloween tract. I should also learn how to make online copies for sharing, too.

  8. i also hope you feel better and my family is praying for Harmony. By the way, Grace, do you like to quilt? Well, I hope you feel better.

  9. Grace, I’m glad your wisdom teeth came out fine. I ahd mine our a few years ago and it wasn’t much fun! May God give you grace to endure! I’m praying for Harmony!

  10. Daniel: that’s a great idea to write your own tract. It’s often more meaningful to give people something you wrote yourself!
Taylor: no, I haven’t done very much quilting…just a very little. I guess I prefer sewing (as in sewing / altering clothes) but I haven’t done very much of that either recently!
Thank you everyone for praying for Harmony. Also, I’ve been surprised at how good I’ve felt the past few days after the surgery– very little pain. I know that is unusual and something to be grateful for!

  11. Hey, Grace! I love reading your blog updates! I am so grateful for your ministry! I heard that you know Ryan W. and met his parents (Mel and Rhoda) last weekend! They attend my church…great couple…used to be my Sunday School class teachers before I started teaching a high-school girls class. Anyway, thought that was neat that they got to meet you! 🙂

  12. Yes i am glad you are alive too 🙂

I will pray for Harmony i am glad you talked to her.

  13. Hey Grace, hope your teeth are feeling better!!! I’ve never had wisdom teeth out, but I did have a couple of extremely stubborn baby teeth cut out. Ouch! I will be praying for Harmony! Just curious, but when does the next internship round start?

    Blessings, prayers and a hug,
    Rachael
