Chicken Noodle Soup Disaster

My mom made a big pot of chicken noodle soup to take to a family from our church who was sick. As she was taking it to the car…….somehow something slipped. Poor mom, she had been working on the soup all day, and it was really delicious (or so I hear). She screamed really loud (her natural reaction when she spills something) and my dad came frantically running out. I think he was relieved that the problem wasn’t more serious. A few minutes later, Stephen and I pulled into the driveway to an unexpected sight….

We’ve shoveled a lot of snow this year, but I never guessed that I’d be shoveling chicken noodle soup!

I was at a friends house recently and saw a little wooden sign in their kitchen that said “There is always, always, always something to be grateful for.” Even when things go wrong, benefits arise. For example, we learn patience, we have something to laugh about (well, later), we remember to be more grateful for all the times when we didn’t spill the soup, [smile] etc.
If things “go wrong” at your house today, don’t forget to “Give thanks in everything, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thess 5:18)

  1. Hi, I’m Toni Duval’s mom. I was wondering with all the conferences that you have, if you had ever considered a mother daughter or even a family evangelism training conference? Your family has such a gift in this and for those of us who aren’t so gifted it would be a blessing for some ideas and encouragement. Just a thought.

  2. I’m sorry about the soup! (but it is funny! :o) Whenever we spill something on the floor in the house, we say that we’re grateful we have a chance to clean the floor…

  3. Thanks so much for posting this story, Grace! I can relate so well, as we have had many similar experiences! What an encouraging reminder to give thanks in everything.

  4. Thanks Grace, that made me smile and brightened my day, well, my night I guess. 🙂

  5. What a mess! But, like you said, it’s so important to remain thankful in all things and to always praise His Name! 🙂

  6. Dear Mrs. Duval,
I am sorry for the delay in responding! I think an evangelism training conference sounds like a really good idea! I think it would be great to at least add a session on evangelism (“shining your light”) into a Bright Lights conference sometime… thanks for the suggestion. We’ll see how God leads…
    Talk to you later–
    Love, Grace
